The Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education (SDRME) is a non-profit organization committed to improving medical education quality through research, collaboration, professional development, and advocacy, while supporting the growth of medical education research units.

The Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education (SDRME) represents the latest development in the thirty-year history of this specialized field. A brief review of the evolution of the seven initial offices or divisions of research in medical education and the developments leading to the creation of SDRME are key to understanding the current status of this discipline.

Several members formed various various committees that are committed to upholding our core values of scholarship, collegiality, and service, fostering open communication and mentorship, and promoting professional development and advocacy. SDRME empowers members to contribute significantly to the advancement of medical education research.
The SDRME grants membership to individuals, specifically directors or heads of units, rather than to the organizations themselves. While certain institutional conditions must be met for membership consideration, it is the director or head of the unit who is ultimately granted membership.
